Day 2 of my Vitamix Cleanse has come and gone, and it was another successful day!  I was really curious to see how my body was going to respond on Day #2, as I figured it would be the time when it would finally ask, “Ok, what the F- is going on here?”.  But for the most part, I felt great!  And I was (surprisingly)  not hungry at any point during the day.

I made a total of five Vitamix concoctions, the first of which I broke into 2 servings: Breakfast and 2nd Breakfast.  With the amount of water that I have to add to these blends to give them a smooth, juice-like consistency,  I’m ending up with way more juice/smoothie than I can drink in one sitting.  I’ve been taking the extra, sticking it in a Ball Mason Jar and putting it in the frig to drink an hour or two later.  From what I understand, the enzymes start to break down right away so I try not to let it sit for more than an hour or two.

There’s was only one stretch throughout the day where my body tripped out.  I’m dog-sitting Hamlet right now (a French Bulldog), and when he and my English Bulldog (Mr. Charles) get together things can get pretty interesting.  In some ways, they are just like my 2 sons.  They love each other to death, but they also inevitably end up making one another cry whenever they are together.  Yesterday afternoon  I was trying to get them both inside, but they decided it was time to play Keep-Away from the big Norwegian dude in a boot.  As I was hobbling around my yard trying to  wrangle them in, I got super hot and sweaty, a tiny bit light-headed, and for a very brief moment had a massive case of the grumps.  It was comical, really, as they knew they had the upper hand and could likely sense my juicing induced frustration building.  When I finally got them inside, I sat down for a second and the grumps/lightheadedness when away almost as quickly as it came on.

I had a Masters swim class last night, and those classes are INTENSE.  I thought about skipping it as I’ve seen recommendations to keep exercise light on a juice fast, but instead opted to eat half a banana beforehand and give the class a shot instead.  I felt great for about 30 minutes, and then my muscles started screaming at me.  I was breathing sooooo heavy in between sets for that last 30 minutes.  We’re moving into longer distance intervals as we approach open water season, so it’d be expected to be winded regardless.  But I felt especially out of breath on these, and it felt like I was about 5 minutes away from full-blown muscle cramping when we finished.  I powered thru it though and my body feels great this morning, so I definitely think exercise is doable while on a juice fast.  I also have to imagine that it would get easier over time as the body adapts were I to keep this going.

On a side note, the one thing I haven’t relented on with this cleanse is coffee.  I totally get that coffee is mad acidic and that I shouldn’t be drinking it.  But whatever.  What’s interesting is that caffeine doesn’t typically have an effect on me any more other than a very minor and almost unnoticeable boost.  But in combination with the juicing I’ve felt hyper-aware after drinking it.

Day 2 went down like this:

Morning Greens (Broken up into 2, about 90 minutes apart)

1 Cucumber

Handful of Kale

Handful of Spinach

3 Celery Stalks

1/2 lemon peeled

Small knob of ginger (peeled)

2 Granny Smith Apples

2 Cups Water

Lunch-Time Smoothie

5 Strawberries

Small Handfull of Blueberries

Small Handfull of Blackberries

1 Banana

Handful of Spinach

1 Scoop of Hemp Protein Powder

5 Cashews

1 Cup of Water

Afternoon Tomato/Carrot Spice Action:

3 Roma Tomatoes

2 Carrots (Peeled and Chopped)

3 Celery Stalks

Dash of Paprika

Dash of Cayenne Pepper

Dash of Black Pepper

2 Cups Water

Post-Swim Refuel

2 Naval Oranges (Peeled)

1 Handful of Chopped Pineapple

5 Strawberries

1 Small Handfull of Blueberries

1 Banana

1 Handful of Spinach

1 Cup of Water


1 Handful of Cashews

Dash of Cinnamon

1/4 Tsp Vanilla Extract

1/2 Tbs Agave Nectar

1 Cup of Water


1 more day to go to reach my goal…..and then?
