Marine Corps Marathon or Bust

Marine Corps Marathon or Bust

Marine Corps Marathon or Bust

Considering I’m hobbling around on crutches, only 1 week into 8 weeks of boot-laden hell, it seems a little ridiculous to be thinking about signing up for a marathon, let alone actually doing it.

However, I’ve known for quite some time that I wanted to run a fall marathon this year, and the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC is one that has been on my bucket list for several years.

And as usually happens with me and my crazy endurance friends/fiends, a Facebook seed was planted some time back. That seed sprouted, grew, picked up momentum as registration day approached and ultimately resulted in at least 15 sign-ups that I know of, and probably more once it all shakes out.  Washington DC has no idea what is coming its way, and I can’t wait!

Now you might be wondering (as am I), am I going to be able to run a marathon by October 27th?  If everything goes as planned, I should be able to start running again around the end of May, beginning of June.  That would give me 5 months to get into marathon shape….1 to build a base, and 4 to actually follow a marathon training plan.  My swimming fitness is better than its ever been right now and is only going to get better, so I won’t be starting completely from scratch.  I should have a good cardio base, I’ll just need to build up the strength in my legs. And *pray* that my foot plays nice.

I might be overly optimistic at this point, but I’m going to give it a shot.  And if it doesn’t work out, at least I can make a trip to DC to cheer on my friends, creep at the Smithsonian, and party down at our nation’s capital.

I. Am. PUMPED.
