Vineman Training Update – 2/18/11

Feb 18

Our training schedule for the rest of the way consists of  2 weeks of intense workouts, 1 week of recovery. We just finished off 2 high intensity workout weeks and the recovery week (or weekend I should say considering nothing is different about the mid-week workouts) comes at a good time.  The last two Saturdays have made the reality of Ironman training set in, with rides of 44 miles and 56 miles taking place on each respective Saturday, followed by long runs of about 10 miles on Sunday.    My legs are tired for the first time during this process, and I could definitely use a lighter weekend.  We’ve got 7 rainy miles of running planned for tomorrow, and a 2 hour ride plus a swim lined up for Sunday.

My recovery from the separated shoulder is coming along fairly well.  I swam 1000m this morning with not much pain, and I’m steadily increasing the distance with each swim I do.  It feels great to be swimming again without having to do so much damn kick-boarding.

I’ve got good news/bad news on the bike front.  I finally found the bike I want, ordered it, and now the shop can’t find what I ordered.  I ordered a 2011 Cannondale Caad10 with Ultegra components, but the problem they’re running into is that I need a 60cm, and there doesn’t seem to be one in existence with this configuration.  The shop is trying to get the factory to ship one to them, but so far they haven’t had any luck.  They’ve considered taking at 60cm frame that has 105 components and doing an upgrade to Ultegra, but I can tell the shop doesn’t want anything to do with that since they’d have to take the extra few hours to build it.

If I don’t get an answer this weekend about when I’ll have my bike, I’ll have to get my money back and go back to the drawing board.  I’m totally frustrated at this point, as the mileage we’re racking up is torturous on a mountain bike not to mention we have our first event coming up in a few weeks (Desert Tri Olympic Distance).  If the shop didn’t have access to one of these bikes, they shouldn’t have sold me so hard on this model and taken my money.

One way or another, I’m going to resolve the bike issue this weekend.  I don’t want to go into another 2 weeks of high intensity training without a road bike.

UPDATE: Cannondale says they won’t have one of these ready to ship until July.  Why would I buy a 2011 bike that I can’t get until July when I could get it for year-end clearance just a few months later?  Cannondale just lost a lot of respect in my book. Don’t offer a 2011 bike that’s not available in 2011.  Cannondale just moved their factory from stateside to overseas….coincidence?
